Mora 511 modifications

This is not a review. These are the knife and sheath modifications I made to my Mora 511. If you trim the guard, flip the knife around in the sheath for better retention. It’s a great knife; the more I use it the more I love it. SORRY for the poor audio quality (it’s a cheap camera). The mods: 1. cut off button attachment (personal preference) 2. drill hole for small loop of twine, for neck carry or carabiner 3. trim finger guard to desired height 4. patina on blade (I may do more later) 5. square off back edge for fire steel striking 6. fire steel attachment inside sheath Errata: 1.The fire steel blank cost $4, not $3. 2. Perhaps I saw how to make whipping somewhere else.

I have the same knife and did the same 510. 5 or 510 1/2 mod to it. but , i solved the loose sheath problem with my wifes hair dryer. Take a hair dryer and heat the top of the thermo plastic sheath. It will then be softer and you can then put it between the palm of your hands and tighten the fit up . use the knife to test for proper fit. Then let the sheath cool and test again. It works great!

  4. Thanks for your comment. Mora now makes a dedicated bushcraft/survival knife that has a fire steel and sharpener integrated in the sheath.

Nice modification to the 511, Mora needs catch on and make a knife with a farro rod attachment to the sheath.

  8. No doubt! That scandi edge loves outdoor tasks. Keep making videos! For every 1 person that comments there are 10 more that watched and gleaned good info. Have a good one!

  9. Thanks for the first (and positive) comment. This is my first Mora and I love it! It was made to carve wood.

  10. Good stuff- keep em coming!
